Pentagon signs classified AI deals with OpenAI, Google, Nvidia—Anthropic left out

The Pentagon announced seven deals to allow the lawful, classified-use of AI tools from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, xAI, and Reflection, while excluding Anthropic over a declared supply-chain risk. Anthropic previously handled classified materials but refused to loosen red lines on mass surveillance and autonomous weapons, which led to a government ban and a related injunction lawsuit. Officials say the agreements aim to harden networks and establish the U.S. military as AI-first; reports also link Google to a similar deal, with Microsoft and Amazon already having deep Pentagon ties and Nvidia/Reflection contracts new.
