Elizabeth Holmes, former CEO of Theranos, has lost her bid to remain free while she appeals her conviction for fraud and conspiracy. She has been ordered to pay $452 million in restitution to the victims of her crimes, jointly liable with her former partner Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani. Holmes is expected to report to prison soon, where she will serve an 11-year sentence. Her former partner is already serving a 13-year sentence. The verdict against Holmes came after a 46-day trial that exposed a culture of greed and hubris in Silicon Valley.
