Former Theranos Executive to Serve Prison Sentence After Appeal Fails

Former Theranos executive Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani will soon be heading to prison to serve his nearly 13-year sentence for his role in the blood-testing hoax carried out with his former boss and lover, Elizabeth Holmes. Balwani's appeal to delay the start of his sentence was rejected by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and he has proposed to report to prison on April 20. Balwani's proposed reporting date is a week before Holmes is scheduled to begin her own 11-year prison sentence. Both were accused of fraud and conspiracy for touting Theranos' blood-testing system as a revolutionary breakthrough in health care, resulting in the company's collapse and a criminal case that exposed Silicon Valley greed and hubris.
