Wegmans employee defrauds company of over $560K in fake refunds.

An employee at Wegmans Food Market in Webster, Alicia Torres, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud for creating fraudulent pharmacy refunds and pocketing over $560,000 herself. Torres processed about 350 credit card refund requests that she had fraudulently created through the system used to fill prescriptions and duped the on-duty pharmacists to approve the transactions. She processed the refunds, totaling $568,021, to her personal credit card. Torres is scheduled to be sentenced on September 11 and faces a recommended sentence between 33 and 41 months.
