IMAX's Profit Soars with 'Oppenheimer'

IMAX reported its second highest-grossing quarter ever at the global box office, driven by the success of Universal's "Oppenheimer." The company posted a net income of $12 million, compared to a loss of $9 million in the same period last year. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond emphasized the strength of the theatrical experience, stating that the company's performance across various indices exceeded expectations. Key contributors to the quarter's growth included Hollywood titles like "Oppenheimer," "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One," and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," as well as local language films. IMAX also generated 120 new signings for new and upgraded IMAX systems worldwide. Looking ahead, the company expects some impact from the Hollywood actors' strike but remains optimistic about upcoming titles and the potential for success in the concert film genre.
