Intel's $2.18B VLSI Patent Case Reversed, New Trial Ordered

Intel has won an appeal against a $2.18 billion patent infringement judgment awarded to VLSI. The U.S. appeals court reversed a previous verdict that found Intel violated a frequency management patent but affirmed the violation of a second patent on memory voltage reduction. The damages were sent back to a lower court for recalculation. Intel and VLSI are involved in multiple legal disputes over patent infringement, and while the remaining patent in question is considered to have little value, it remains to be seen if a new trial will result in a different compensation amount for VLSI.
