Distressed passenger triggers chaotic stop on Metro-North near Grand Central

A woman in emotional distress activated the emergency cord on the 7:12 a.m. Metro-North train from New Canaan as it approached Grand Central, causing a stop before the platform and prompting several passengers to exit via emergency windows. MTA police escorted about 60 people to the platform, with the remaining 650 passengers accounted for and four evaluated as a precaution. The suspect, 33-year-old Hannah Jane Santero of Elmhurst, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for a psychological evaluation and faces charges of terroristic threat (felony) and threat of mass harm (misdemeanor); no weapon was recovered. Train service resumed on most tracks, though Track 110 remained under investigation. Santero reportedly worked at a major accounting firm and was en route to work at the time.
