SAWS proposes four-year rate hike to fund $3B water and sewer upgrades

The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is proposing phased rate increases through 2029 to fund more than $3 billion in capital improvements to its water and wastewater systems. The average monthly bill would rise from about $57 to roughly $75 (about a 32% increase) as rates climb about 7% annually over four years, equating to roughly a $4 monthly increase each year. A public hearing has been held, with SAWS’s board expected to vote next month; final approval from City Council is required, and changes could take effect by July 1 if approved.
