China warns Japan against supporting U.S. chip export restrictions

China's Foreign Minister Qin Gang has urged Japan not to support US curbs on China's semiconductor industry, as Washington continues to try to rally nations behind its chip export restrictions. Semiconductors have been thrust into the center of a battle for tech supremacy between the US and China. For the US restrictions to be effective, Washington requires the buy-in from other key nations in the semiconductor supply chain, including South Korea, Japan, and the Netherlands.
