5G Rollout Raises Concerns Over Flight Disruptions

Telecommunication companies like AT&T and Verizon have rolled out new 5G systems near major airports, potentially impacting flights. Aviation groups have raised concerns about interference with aircraft equipment, particularly devices that use radio waves for low-visibility landings. About 80% of airlines have upgraded their systems to protect against radio interference, but those that haven't will not be allowed to land in areas with low visibility. Delta Air Lines still has around 190 planes without upgraded altimeters, but they do not anticipate canceling any flights. The rollout was delayed for a year to give airlines time to upgrade their equipment.
