Amazon settles $30M privacy violation case over Ring and Alexa.

Amazon's Ring doorbell camera unit has settled with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for $5.8m over privacy violations, including an employee spying on female customers in their bedrooms and bathrooms. Amazon also agreed to pay $25m to settle allegations it violated children's privacy rights when it failed to delete Alexa recordings at the request of parents. The FTC is also probing Amazon's $1.7bn deal to buy iRobot and has a separate antitrust probe underway into Amazon. The fines, totaling $30.8m, represent a fraction of Amazon's $3.2bn first-quarter profit.
