Australia Imposes Heavy Fines on X for Neglecting Child Abuse Content

Australia has fined X (formerly known as Twitter) approximately $384,000 for failing to provide information about its efforts to combat child exploitation. The social media service, which saw a decline in automated detection of abusive material after being bought by Elon Musk, did not comply with a national law requiring platforms to disclose their measures for detecting and removing child sexual abuse material. X, along with Google, failed to answer all of the regulator's questions, with X's lack of response being more extensive. The company can appeal the fine.
