Chinese state-backed experts claim to have cracked Apple's AirDrop encryption to identify users and prevent the transmission of inappropriate information, following reports of people using the service to spread digital leaflets critical of the government. Apple had previously limited file-sharing for Chinese iPhone users in response to protests against the ruling Communist Party's policies. The Beijing municipal government's justice bureau stated that the technique has helped police ascertain several case suspects, but it's unclear if it has led to any arrests or convictions.
