Chinese National Charged with Stealing AI Trade Secrets from Google

A former Google engineer, Linwei Ding, has been arrested and charged with stealing over 500 files containing confidential information on the company's AI technology. He allegedly worked with two China-based tech companies while secretly employed at Google, and faces four counts of theft of trade secrets. This case is part of a larger pattern of China's alleged campaign to steal U.S. trade secrets and technology. The stolen AI technology is related to Google's supercomputing data centers and machine learning. Ding allegedly uploaded the stolen files to his personal Google Cloud account and failed to disclose his ties to the Chinese companies to Google.
