Decades of Data Compromised: U of M Reveals Extent of Massive Breach

The University of Minnesota has provided new details about a data breach that occurred earlier this year, revealing that the compromised records may include Social Security numbers, license and passport information. The breach affected individuals who attended, worked, or applied to be a student at the university between 1989 and August 2021. While donations, medical treatment, passwords, and credit card information were not accessed, personal data such as names, addresses, phone numbers, birthdates, admissions applications, and employment information may have been compromised. The university is notifying potentially affected individuals and offering 12 months of free credit and identity monitoring services.
