Disney to Enforce Password-Sharing Crackdown Across Streaming Platforms

Disney will begin cracking down on password-sharing for its streaming services, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, starting in June with a full rollout in September. Subscribers will be prompted to pay for additional access for individuals outside their household, with the goal of achieving double-digit margins in its streaming business. The crackdown comes as part of Disney's efforts to increase profitability in its streaming unit, which posted an operating loss of $138 million in the year-end 2023 quarter. The updated subscriber agreements explicitly forbid sharing log-in details with anyone outside the primary residence, and violators may face access limitations or termination.
