EU Pushes for Labeling of AI-Generated Content to Combat Disinformation

The European Union is urging online platforms such as Google and Meta to add labels to content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) to combat disinformation. EU Commission Vice President Vera Jourova has asked tech companies to tackle the problem of AI-generated disinformation by building safeguards and recognizing such content. The EU is concerned about the rapid development of generative AI and is bringing in a separate set of rules this year to safeguard people from harmful online content. The EU's AI Act still needs final approval and won't take effect for several years.
