FBI Probes Massive Dark-Web Leak: 153 Million Driver's Licenses for Sale

A dark-web service called Nexus is advertising digital scans of over 153 million US and Canadian driver’s licenses, plus other IDs, allegedly sourced from a large identity-verification vendor (idscan.net). The FBI’s New Orleans field office has opened an inquiry into the data’s source after KrebsOnSecurity reported the breach. Some records include government and private-sector IDs with six image files and timestamps; the data appears to have grown by hundreds of thousands in a day, suggesting ongoing exfiltration over more than a year. The Nexus site later disappeared, highlighting risks posed by third-party ID verification vendors and the handling of sensitive personal data.
