Google will delete data from personal accounts that have not been active for two years, including Gmail, Google Drive and Docs, Google Photos, Google Calendar, and YouTube. The decision aims to help users avoid security risks, as inactive accounts are often vulnerable to identity theft and malicious content due to the lack of two-step authentication and the use of old or repeated passwords. The policy does not include business or school-associated accounts, and deletions will start in December at the earliest.
