Tesla Recalls About 3 Million China Cars for Door-Handle Fixes with OTA Update and Stickers
Tesla is recalling about 2.98 million vehicles in China over door-handle safety concerns that could hinder egress in a crash. The fix combines an over-the-air software patch that automatically lowers all passenger windows after a crash with high-visibility warning stickers showing the location of the mechanical emergency release. The recall covers domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y (2019–2026) and imported Model 3, Model X, and Model S across various production dates. A separate recall affects over 2.74 million domestically produced Model 3/Model Y vehicles (2019–2025) to enable cabin-camera tracking with Autosteer. Regulators are tightening door-safety standards worldwide, and Tesla is pursuing long-term door-handle redesigns for future models.
