The Risks and Reshaping of Society with Artificial Intelligence

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has warned of the real dangers of artificial intelligence as it reshapes society, stressing the need for regulators and society to be involved with the technology to guard against potentially negative consequences for humanity. Altman expressed concerns that AI models could be used for large-scale disinformation and offensive cyber-attacks. Despite the dangers, he said AI could also be “the greatest technology humanity has yet developed”. The warning came as OpenAI released the latest version of its language AI model, GPT-4, which can write computer code in most programming languages.
