The Roadblock to Driverless Car Legislation in the US

Legislation regarding autonomous vehicles in the US remains stagnant as disagreements persist among lawmakers. A recent House of Representatives subcommittee hearing on self-driving cars failed to break the logjam that has stalled AV legislation for over six years. Issues such as increasing the number of autonomous vehicles on the road and prohibiting states from setting their own performance standards for AVs continue to hinder progress. Despite claims that autonomous vehicles could save lives and help the US compete with China, concerns over liability, insurance, and civil liability in accidents involving driverless cars remain unresolved.
