Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, announced that the social media platform will begin purging accounts that have had no activity for several years, potentially opening up more than a billion accounts and giving access to much-desired handles. Musk did not provide a timeline for the change, but warned that people should expect their follower count to drop. However, there is no clarification on what this means for accounts of the deceased or an option to memorialize those accounts. The move could also lead to another impersonation problem for Twitter, one that continues to plague the site as blue check marks are now available for purchase.
