Twitter will begin winding down its legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks starting April 1st. To keep the blue checkmark, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue, a subscription service that costs $84 a year or $8 a month. Twitter Blue offers "power features" like undoing a tweet and saving bookmarks to folders, as well as a blue checkmark for paying users. The move provides additional revenue to Twitter and a way for Elon Musk to show his disdain for government agencies, journalists, and others.
