Twitter Withdraws from EU Disinformation Code, Faces Criticism.

Twitter has withdrawn from the European Union's voluntary code to combat disinformation, according to the EU's internal market commissioner, Thierry Breton. Breton warned that new laws would force compliance, and Twitter will be legally required to fight disinformation in the EU from 25 August. Dozens of tech firms, including Facebook, TikTok, Google, Microsoft, and Twitch, are signed up to the EU's disinformation code. The Digital Services Act obliges firms to do more to tackle illegal online content, and platforms with more than 45 million monthly active users in the EU will have to comply legally with the rules under the DSA.
