Volkswagen's Self-Driving ID Buzz Hits the Roads of Texas
Volkswagen will begin testing a fleet of self-driving ID Buzz EVs in Austin, Texas, in July, marking its first autonomous driving test in the U.S. The pilot program aims to deploy self-driving EVs throughout Austin by 2026, with plans for ride-hailing and delivery services within the next three years. The test fleet consists of 10 ID Buzz vans equipped with sensors from Mobileye. While the vehicles are ready for Level 4 autonomous operation, they will have a human driver on board during the initial test. Volkswagen's partnership with Mobileye follows the closure of its previous partner, Argo, and the company plans to expand testing to at least four more American cities.
