MTA Suspends Baltimore Light Rail Services Indefinitely Due to Safety Concerns

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has announced the suspension of Light Rail services in Baltimore due to two issues. Inspections following a fire event in October revealed punctured high voltage conduits on the vehicles, and further inspections found issues with the cables connecting the Light Rail cars, causing six smoke events since November. As a precautionary measure, the MTA has decided to suspend service to facilitate an expedited inspection and repair of the fleet. Shuttle bus service will be implemented at all Light Rail stops during the suspension.
