Holiday Travel Expected to Break Records with Millions of Americans Taking to the Skies and Roads
AAA predicts that the 10-day Christmas and New Year's travel period will be the busiest ever at US airports, with 7.5 million air travelers expected, surpassing the previous record set in 2019. Overall, 115 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this holiday season, making it the second-busiest since 2000. Most travelers will drive, with nearly 104 million people hitting the roads. INRIX predicts minimal traffic on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, as well as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, but expects congestion on Saturday, December 23, and Thursday, December 28. Over 4 million Americans are expected to travel by alternative modes such as bus, train, and cruise ship.
