Summer Travel Forecast: High Demand and Potential Disruptions

AAA predicts that this summer travel season could be one for the record books, especially at airports, with air travel expected to be up by 11% over last year. This Memorial Day weekend is expected to be the third busiest since 2000, with 42.3 million Americans traveling 50 miles or more from home, a 7% increase over 2020. Most travelers will be driving to their destinations, with road trips expected to be up 6% over last year, but still down from pre-pandemic levels. Gas prices are lower than last year, but car travel is still expected to be down by about a half million travelers.
