Austin Demolishes Old Home Depot Site, Paving Way for Affordable Housing

The City of Austin celebrated the demolition of the former Home Depot site in north Austin, which holds historical significance for the Black community. The city plans to develop a mixed-use, mixed-income property with 526 units, 50% of which will be dedicated to income-restricted affordable housing. The redevelopment will also expand the St. John Pocket Park and create more open spaces for the community.
