"San Francisco's Tallest Sculpture 'Node' Installed at Central Subway Station After 10 Years"

A $1.45 million sculpture commission, titled "Node," by artist Roxy Paine has been installed at the 4th Street Central Subway Station plaza in San Francisco. The stainless steel sculpture, which has been finished and sitting in storage for years, is described as an "enormous bio-industrial rhizomatic organism" and is now the tallest sculpture in San Francisco at 102 feet. The commission was funded by SF's 2% Art Enrichment Ordinance, which requires big construction projects to set aside a piece of their budget for public artworks.
