Terry Jon Martin, a dying thief, was sentenced to no prison time for stealing Judy Garland's ruby slippers from a museum in 2005. Martin, who is in hospice care, admitted to the theft and hoped to sell the slippers for their supposed real jewels, but later found out they were fake. Both sides recommended time served due to his health, and he was ordered to pay restitution to the museum. The slippers were recovered in 2018, and their market value is estimated at $3.5 million.
