Investigation Launched Following Death of Gérard Depardieu Accuser

Paris prosecutors have opened an investigation into the death of Emmanuelle Debever, a French actor who accused Gérard Depardieu of sexual assault. Debever made her allegations public in 2019, claiming that Depardieu groped her in 1982. Debever's partner found a "worrying" note after she left their home on November 29, and later that day, Debever jumped from a Paris bridge into the Seine river. She received emergency medical care but died on December 7. Depardieu has been under investigation for rape and sexual assault since 2020, with a total of 16 accusers.
