Jazz Icon Cassandra Wilson Passes Away at 70

Renowned jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson, a two-time Grammy winner known for her smoky contralto, died at 70 in Jackson, Mississippi, with her family and manager stating she passed away peacefully at home and no cause was disclosed. Born in 1955, she rose to prominence after joining Blue Note, delivering acclaimed albums such as Blue Light Til Dawn and New Moon Daughter (the latter winning a Grammy). Her last studio album was 2015’s Coming Forth By Day, and she later joined the Dopamine supergroup and received the NEA Jazz Master Fellowship in 2022.
