Florida Teacher Investigated for Showing Controversial Disney Film in Classroom

A Florida teacher is being investigated by the state Department of Education for showing her fifth-grade students Disney's 2022 movie "Strange World," which features an out, gay character. The teacher, Jenna Barbee, believes the investigation is a targeted attack by a school board member who reported her to the DOE. Florida educators are prohibited from teaching about gender and sexual identity due to the Parental Rights in Education Act, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last year. Barbee denies any wrongdoing and says every student in her class had a signed parent permission slip that allowed PG movies.
