Murphy Unveils Three-Season Adaptation of The Shards

Ryan Murphy previews FX’s The Shards as a three-season adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s autofiction, set in early-1980s Los Angeles. Ellis co-wrote the first two episodes; casting involved about 500 auditions and stars Igby Rigney, Kaia Gerber and Evan Rachel Wood. The nine-episode arc will unfold over multiple seasons with a tasteful balance of eroticism, trauma, and AIDS-era subtext, produced on a mid-range budget with intimacy coordinators.
