Shakira's Tax Fraud Trial Begins in Spain

Shakira is set to go on trial in Spain over allegations of tax fraud, with the prosecution claiming she defrauded the Spanish tax authorities of €14.5m. The case revolves around whether she spent more than six months as a Spanish resident between 2012 and 2014, making her liable for tax. Shakira denies the charges and accuses the tax authorities of targeting her unfairly. The trial is expected to last until mid-December, and regardless of the outcome, she also faces separate charges of failing to pay €6.6m in taxes in 2018.
