Victor Miller, the screenwriter behind the 1980 horror classic Friday the 13th, has died at 86 in Alameda, California. His son Ian confirmed the death to Variety, and a November celebration is planned. Miller’s screenplay launched a long-running franchise around the killer Jason Voorhees, and he said the idea was influenced by John Carpenter’s Halloween. He also wrote for TV shows like General Hospital and All My Children, contributing to three Daytime Emmy-winning writing teams.
