Shailene Woodley Says Mary Jane Was Cut From The Amazing Spider-Man 2
TL;DR
Shailene Woodley reveals she was cast as Mary Jane Watson for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and even filmed three scenes with Andrew Garfield, but a year later she was told she wouldn’t be in the film as producers introduced new characters; she notes the plan was to reintroduce Mary Jane later, which never happened, while Garfield has said he’d be open to returning in some capacity, albeit in a very weird way.
