Dave Marsh, Trailblazing Music Writer and Bruce Springsteen Biographer, Dies at 76

Dave Marsh, a pioneering music writer, critic, broadcaster and biographer of Bruce Springsteen, died at 76 after years of declining health. A key Creem editor and longtime Rolling Stone contributor, he authored more than two dozen books and earned a Grammy for Aretha Franklin liner notes. Marsh also co‑founded Rap & Rock Confidential, joined SiriusXM in 2004 to host Kick Out the Jams, and, with his wife Barbara Carr, founded the Kristen Ann Carr Fund after their daughter’s sarcoma death to support cancer research. Tributes from Springsteen and peers highlighted his conscience, advocacy for social justice, and influence on music journalism. Marsh is survived by his wife; his daughters Kristen Ann Carr and Sasha Carr had predeceased him, and a full survivor list was not immediately available.
