Netflix Bets Big on Lonesome Dove Adaptation by Kazan & Stuart

Netflix has ordered a straight-to-series adaptation of Larry McMurtry’s Pulitzer-winning Lonesome Dove, developed by Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart for Netflix and Teton Ridge Entertainment. Envisioned as an ongoing Western, the series follows Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call on one final cattle drive from the Rio Grande to Montana, adapting the 1986 novel that previously spawned a 1989 CBS miniseries. Kazan and Stuart—who are co-showrunners on Netflix’s upcoming East of Eden limited series (premiering Oct. 1)—will write and executive produce with Teton Ridge’s Jillian Share and others; rights issues delayed the greenlight but have now been cleared, and Netflix executives praise the material and team as they bring the classic to a new generation.
