"Unequal Access to HIV Treatment Puts Blacks and Hispanics at Risk in Atlanta"

Atlanta is facing a severe HIV crisis, with the burden disproportionately affecting Black communities. Racial disparities in treatment and access to healthcare, compounded by Georgia's refusal to expand Medicaid, have hindered efforts to end the preventable epidemic. While low-cost drugs like PrEP can effectively prevent HIV transmission, access remains unequal, particularly for Black and Hispanic individuals. Atlanta's HIV treatment and prevention efforts lag behind other nations, and broadening access to injectable forms of HIV medications and allowing pharmacists to prescribe PrEP could be crucial steps in addressing the crisis.
