SC Rabies Outbreak: 13 People, 4 Pets Exposed Across Three Counties

South Carolina health officials say 13 people and four pets have been exposed to rabies after three animals—an Aiken County horse, an Anderson County skunk, and a Charleston County raccoon—tested positive; two dogs exposed in Anderson and two in Charleston will be quarantined under the Rabies Control Act. The state requires vaccination for dogs, cats, and ferrets, and there have been 72 rabid-animal cases statewide this year.
