Off-duty UAB police officer killed in collision with Publix 18-wheeler

A UAB police officer, Marvin Wade Hart, was killed in an off-duty crash involving a Publix 18-wheeler at a McCalla intersection. The collision occurred between Hart's pickup truck and the 18-wheeler, resulting in Hart's death. The driver of the 18-wheeler was unharmed. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident.
