"Puppy Saved from Fentanyl Overdose with Life-Saving Drug"

Irvine police officers administered naloxone, an overdose-reversing drug, to a pit bull puppy that they believed may have been exposed to fentanyl. The puppy quickly recovered, but its owners were arrested and may face charges of felony animal cruelty and possession of narcotics. Fentanyl, a highly potent opioid, has been increasingly found in illicit drug supplies, leading to a rise in opioid fatalities. Naloxone, which works by binding to opioid receptors, is effective in reversing overdoses in both humans and animals. Medical experts clarify that it is not possible to overdose from touching or inhaling fentanyl.
