American Airlines faces investigation after two plane fires in one week.

An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing after a bird allegedly struck the engine. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident. Kristy Kiernan, associate director of the Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, said that mechanical malfunction, engine fire, engine shutdown, engine failure, and bird strikes are extremely rare events. The airplane is designed to be able to withstand a bird impact, but sometimes the circumstance is more than what the engine is designed to ingest, or it causes some particular damage.
