13-year-old engages in shootout with Florida officer.

A 13-year-old boy exchanged gunfire with police in Lakeland, Florida, after being pursued by Officer Jamie Smith. The teenager shot Smith in the foot and was later shot himself after engaging in another round of gunfire with the officer. The boy is in the hospital in police custody and is facing felony charges. He and a 14-year-old passenger were on probation after being arrested in January for car burglary and possessing a stolen handgun. Authorities are asking the state attorney to charge the 13-year-old as an adult.
