A 13-year-old boy was shot in the head while hanging out at a playground in Staten Island and is now brain dead. The victim, who has no criminal history, was hit by a single bullet and immediately dropped to the ground. Witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing the scene. The shooting occurred as major crimes have risen 38% this year through May 14 in Staten Island's North Shore 120th Precinct compared to the same time last year. The NYPD is investigating the shooting.
