Alex Murdaugh Pleads Guilty to Federal Financial Crimes and Fraud

Disbarred attorney Alex Murdaugh pleaded guilty to 22 federal financial crimes charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering. He admitted to stealing millions of dollars from his former clients and expressed remorse, stating that he wanted to take responsibility and bring healing to those he hurt. Murdaugh's plea marks the first time he has admitted guilt in any of the crimes he is accused of. Federal prosecutors aim to ensure that he is never a free man again and have recommended a substantial prison sentence. As part of the plea agreement, Murdaugh will surrender a minimum of $9 million. His state trial for alleged financial crimes is scheduled for after Thanksgiving.
