Barry Jones, who spent nearly three decades on death row in Arizona, has been released from prison after a medical review failed to conclude that he caused the fatal injury of a four-year-old girl. Jones pleaded guilty to a lesser murder charge and was sentenced to 25 years, which he had already spent imprisoned. His release had no effect on the US supreme court’s refusal last year to give him the chance to prove that his constitutional right to competent legal representation was compromised.
